He cant recruit airjackson.
Where he has had success is getting some instate players to stay there.
i.e. Illinois as head recruiter for Bill Self (no Bruce Weber didnt recruit Deron Williams).
this years class? All of them instate Texans. 3 unranked. De Andre Jordan. Whoopie. He FELL in the ranks because Jordan is overrated. He isnt Dwight Howard as some claimed. he is more like Randolph Morris.
He didnt recruit Acie Law. He didnt recruit Joseph Jones. he slow tempoed people. If you like slow tempo or actually slower than Tubby Smith then by all means be happy.
I am not.
I have been on recruiting trail and he isnt that well thought of.
The recruiting will not improve.
The style of play will not improve.
I hope EVERYONE is happy.

He may not have recruited the players that made A&M so good last year, but he did develop them, they were not highly rated before he got there. He has shown more of an ability to help players improve whether he recruited them or not, than Tubby did.

Thing is....It's the Billy G era now, and for the foreseeable future.
I was never entirely sold on Billy D FWIW, too many lightning in a bottle type scenarios when he's considered. After him though I agree with Greg --- JP or Travis should have merited serious consideration, moreso JP in my mind. where we disaagree is that I think a wait and see attitude is required. Hopefully, no offence intended, Greg is wrong. If he is right. I will be the first, if at all possible, to give him his just due. Greg is just passionate, folks, and speaks his mind. anyone who can't see that, and accept it for what it is, is, in my mind at least, lesser for it.
Go Cats!!!

Tubby did that too with Fitch, Hawkins and Daniels.
is that what we want,,, a sweet sixteen or elite eight team only?
that is at best what Gillespie did.
He cant recruit the talent (Burger Boys) to come to UK (which was the reason we ran off Smith) to be able to get us to the final four (one of our expectations).
If you are overwhelmed by the hire, I feel sorry for you.
You are being hood-winked by Mitch Barnhart.

When he was talking about style of play, didnt he say he wanted to run in transation and play full court man on man defense in a perfect world? Didnt he say he wanted to be the aggressor on both ends? I like aggresive style of play, thats what we need, I dont mind running some sets everyone now and then, but he has said that he will adjust his style to the players, thats the key. At least he is willing to do that. Tubby was not. I just dont understand Greg.

Tubby Smith said that too.
Tubby expected the big names to come
Billy G will too.
When Tubby didnt get the right recruits he played slower.
When Billy wont get the burger boys here either he will play even slower.
Isnt that what we ran Tubby off for?
This is a direct cause and relation hire. this is the same bullshit we heard from OTS and you are falling for it again.

How many burger boys were on Florida's national championship teams?
There is more to the game than just recruiting

Tubby did that too with Fitch, Hawkins and Daniels. To be honest, those three, along with Kelenna Azubuike, they flourished in the NBA's Developmental League before making the NBA.

Again, I am saying... is that what you want here. If so, then we are all happy.

Gregg, quit your b****ing. If you don't like the coach, fine. But no one here wants to read the same thing from you time and time again

I wish Greg would back off and give him a little more of a chance, but I also think the guy or guys telling him to root for someone else should back off, too.
We've had that "you aren't a real KY fan" argument between people that wanted Tubby fired and people that didn't.
Greg is a real KY fan, just a very pessimistic one. I guarantee you he'll be pulling hard for Kentucky come this fall. He's venting, and he'll be fine.

I miss when Wildcat Insiders was fun to read. He's made every thread about himself, not BillyG or UK. How boring.

Let Billy G coach this season... see what happens... then we can determine where we are going. Recruiting isn't everything. Ask Duke. Recruits such as Jay Williams, Elton Brand, Shane Battier, William Avery, and Cory Maggetie and what did they do? One national title game appearence, an Elite 8 appereance (thanks to Cameron Mills and Scott Padgett) and then they bolted on to the NBA prematurely. Only Battier stayed all four years and he finally got a national title. My point is that recruiting isn't everything. It takes good coaching and being able to work with what you've got to win National Titles. Morris and Crawford are all 'Burger Boys' and well, Morris finally showed his talent this season and Crawford still needs to hit another gear. Billy G wants to be here and we already have him pegged to leave when he wins a title here. He hasn't coached a game yet, he isn't even through with recruiting. We can see what happens at the end of the season, and then make a judgement call.
