Just thinking that if ARod has his best year ( and he's well on his way) he can thank the obsessed fans of the Yankees... very easy for him to keep his routine and hit .300 with 35 HRs every year...
He supposedly worked on his swing and trained really hard this off-season. I'm sure he trains hard every season, but I bet he put a little extra effort this year to silence or at least slow down his critics...
How does this relate to UK? Well, obsessed fans the name and tradition motivate by themselves. and I believe that if the teams the last 2 years didn't have Kentucky on their jersey they would've had far worse seasons... the name and tradition motivate by themselves.
So call us crazy .. or whatever, more often then not it's a positive.

The last Yankees game I saw, they were talking about how the fan pressure got to him last year and it affected his game. They said this year he has a new perspective and is trying to ignore the fan pressure for the most part. This was supposed to clear his mind and allow him to focus on himself and enjoy the game. That's just what I heard from the commentators who apparently spoke to some people about it.
I think fan pressure can be good or bad, depending on the situation and the person involved, considering not everyone responds in the same way. People don't give enough respect to the uniqueness of each situation when they reduce the influence of high pressure fan support to all good or all bad. I think I understand the point you are trying to make, but I'm afraid it's not quite that simple. Perhaps it helped some of our roster, but not others on the roster. However, when players are recruited, they are introduced to what it means to play in this kind of spotlight. So I would hope we mostly get the kids that respond well to that kind of pressure. But this isn't Utopia and not everyone can handle it.

Very good points... I agree with what you're saying as well. I believe the pressure was bothering him but it's also forced him to mature and grow and it might lead him to be best year ever. Even when the pressue got to him... he still had a pretty good year.
As for Kentucky players, i guess what I was trying to say is.. it would've been very easy the last 2 years to get down and give up, but they at least fought and scrapped their way to their 20 win seasons. I think part of it had to do with the name on the jersey and not wanting to let the school and the tradition down.
