Seems to be a lot of talk floating around lately that Billy G might be our next coach. Thoughts on Gillispie? I have to say I love that he is supposedly such a hard worker and he eats and sleeps basketball, but I'd be lying if I said I didnt have my doubts about him. Seems the only recruit he has ever signed over 3 stars is DeAndre Jordan. I would give him a chance though.

Remember what school he was recruiting to.
TAMU has long been in the B12 cellar.
Getting a 4 or 5 star to come there instead of going to Texas, KU, OU, OSU, or LSU is quite an accomplishment.
Having said that I am still not crazy about Gillespie as a prospect to be our new HC.
Its not recruiting that scares me, its style of play.
If Coach Smith's style conjured up images of a plow, then Gillespie's style conjures up images of my Grandpa's old tractor. In other words an improvement, but not by much.
That is why I prefer Barnes. His style and his recruiting are a little better, IMHO. Plus, he has alot more experience. Gillespie's X's and O's might be better, according to some folks, but I give the nod to Barnes because of the other aspects. We've had a good X's and O's coach (Smith), if we can't have the whole package lets at least get one with a better style or play and better recruiting presence.
Just my opinion, though.

I am not a big fan of Izzo but, he is the second most "accomplished" candidate that we have heard mentioned. Four final fours and one national title since 1999. He used to be a great recruiter but it seems like he has slipped in that area of late. Of all the candidates I have heard mentioned Tom Crean would be the last one that I would want. Crean is also the least popular candidate in a LHL poll. Barnes is the second least popular. Check it out. forums.kentucky.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=kr-uksportsky&msg=24625.1&ctx=1&

They are both longshots, I know, but I figure both would be on the list if one of them was on it.

Just my opinion, though. who has he gotten bucs. The stars on this years team (Law, Pompey, Jones) werent recruited by him. The only "big name" hasnt played for him yet. DeAndre Jordan. What HAPPENED was he got the ones THERE to play his style. Which is VERY similar to Tubby. Now if the style of play WAS a problem it WILL CONTINUE TO BE ONE.

I might be wrong about this but I think there were only two guys from out side TX on A&M this year. That will not work at UK.

I have a major concern about BG. I just do not think he is the right fit. I would take Barnes over him as well. But in teh end, if it is not BD, I would think that I would rather have JP.

If it isnt Billy Donovan... then we are at best moving laterally.

Honestly, BD is a lateral move from Tubby as well. If we can get someone who is as good a coach as Tubby, we are in good shape.
Pitino, if he would take it, would be the best choice.

and look if he becomes coach, I hope he does prove me wrong.
Dont get me wrong, I have nothing personal about ANY of the candidates, I just want who would make UK the program it should be.
I dont think Gillespie has it.
