#1 Memphis-
Key Losses- Jeremy Hunt, 14.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg
Key Additions- Derrick Rose-6-4- PG- 5 star prospect
Jeff Robinson-6-5-SF - 4 star prospect
This team could easily be ranked #1 next season. Douglas-Roberts is the leader and he needs to become the best player on the court night in and night out. He has to limit his mistakes this season like his 6 turnovers against Houston and 4 against them the second time around, he also had 4 turnovers in the Austin Peay game. Look for the freakishly talented Derrick Rose to create lots of problems for any team that they face this year. If this team gels they could very well win it all.
#2 Kansas-
Key Losses- Julian Wright, 12.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg
Key Additions- Cole Aldrich- 6-10- C- 4 star prospect
Tyrel Reed - 6-4 -PG-4 star prospect
This team has the most talent in the country. The only close second is Memphis. Look for the freshman to contribute right away. Darrell Arthur should progress nicely also. This team should be tough to beat on any night. The only question is, can they put it all together come March? If Rush stays they are #1 in my mind.
#3 UNC-
Key Losses- Branden Wright, 14.7 ppg, 6.2 rpg
Reshawn Terry, 9.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 43% from the 3
Wes Miller, 2.5 ppg
Key Additions - None
I look for Tyler Hansbrough to have a monster season. Ellington and Lawson as well. Look for Alex Stepheson and Danny Green to really step up this year also. This team doesn't rebuild it just grabs the next 4 or 5 star recruit off the bench and they step in. The only knock on them is can they put it together for a full 40 minutes? Hansbrough has to become a 100% consistent player. Especially without the sharpshooting Terry around to bail him out.
#4 UCLA-
Key Losses- Arron Afflalo, 16.9 ppg , 2.8 rpg
Key Additions- Kevin Love-6-9- C - 5 star prospect
Chace Stanback- 6-7-SF-4 star prospect
Darren Collison is going to be a national player of the year candidate. Is there anything that he can't do. Even with the loss of Afflalo this team has all the tools needed to build a Title run. Look for Josh Shipp to be the leading scorer. Kevin Love finally gives them the legitimate scoring threat in the post. Chace Stanback will provide some much needed depth. They will be a tough out come March, if they go out that is. Their defense will be tough as always.
#5 Louisville
Key Losses- Brandon Jenkins, 5.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg
Key Additions- George Goode-6-8- SF- 4 star prospect
Clarence Holloway- 7-1-C- 3 star prospect
Preston Knowles- 6-1 SG - Diamond in the ruff?
This team UNFORTUNATELY, is one to watch for next season. They only lose 1 player who played any significant minutes. They have the best front line in college basketball. Look for Padget, Character, Clark, Williams and Sosa all to be big time players next season. With the addition of 3 point sharp shooter George Goode the sky is the limit. It will be tough for the Cats to make it 4 in a row against Pitino's best team at UofL thus far. they could be cutting down some nets come March and April. Holloway was a highly touted player a couple of years back, he has lost some weight and could really surprise some people, if he gets in the game that is. Preston Knowles is also one to watch for.
I will have rankings 6-10 shortly also a list of sleeper teams. I think UK is really has a chance to be a sleeper team depending on what happens this last 3 weeks of recruiting. Also note that Memphis and UofL lost a couple of more players, but none who made any significant impact.
